Hey guys! sorry about the lack of updates recently!

I was at a convention in Atlanta, and then I was in St. Louis for a week (and drove home in a snow storm), and I JUST finished the first part of a huge lettering job that needed to be done IMMEDIATELY.

HEY GUYS SUPER HUGE NEWS

SINCE THE DAWN OF MY COMICS CAREER (roughly five years ago) I’ve amassed tons of personal comic pages. And I’m not talking about the current 216 pages of Sakana, I’m talking about ALL THE OTHER COMIC PAGES I’ve managed to accrue in that time.

And I’ve been thinking for a while that I’d like to bring all those together in a big ol’ fun book of stupid one-shots, minicomics, class projects, and series that never really got off the ground, or are still waiting for that fabled day far in the future where I will have the free time and financial stability to just sit down and draw every single comic I ever thought up.

SO ANYWAYS the big news is that I’ve begun pulling old pages out from under my bed, and leafing through my old portfolios, and scouring my external harddrive for anything that I’ve ever done that even resembles a comic (and some are pretty janky, lemme tell you) because I want to PUT THEM ALL IN A BIG BOOK. AND SELL IT.

If you’re a fan of my webcomic Sakana, perhaps you’d like to see the one-shot graffiti-centric minicomic I did three years ago? Or one of the very first comics I ever drew: where two men scream at each other until one of them turns into a banana and the other eats him? Or the first ten pages of two other series that are still waiting to be drawn? OR SLUT-FACE MCGEE, THE GREATEST COMIC I’VE EVER MADE?? OR LIKE A WHOLE HELL OF A LOT MORE??

MAYBE YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE THESE THINGS????

If you would, I’m going to be holding MY FIRST EVER SUPER AMAZING WOW SO COOL KICKSTARTER TO FUND THE BOOK. Obviously there will be lots of fabulous incentives, and obviously the only reason anybody follows me is for Sakana so there will be LOTS OF SAKANA THEMED INCENTIVES. Which is a good thing for Sakana fans because IF THE BOOK GETS FUNDED, THERE WILL BE MORE SAKANA THINGS TOO HOORAY GOOD DEAL.

I’m going to be putting up more information about the book itself and the eventual Kickstarter in the next few days, but if you could help me spread the word and drum up a bit of pregame excitement, I would be super grateful!! The only reason I can even think of doing something like this is because I have the most amazing fans in the entire world, and I am so thankful for your support every day! Even if you don’t have the moolah to throw at some small lady you kind of half-know on the internet cuz she draws fish people so often, I would still appreciate a reblog, AND I STILL APPRECIATE YOU <33

HEY GUYS GUESS WHAT, after an unprecedented swamp of book orders, everything is FINALLY ON ITS WAY AND INTO YOUR LOVING ARMS, WONDERFUL SAKANA FANS OF MY HEART. Which means if you don’t receive your books within the next several business days PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

Again I’d like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding while I floundered around like a headless chicken, ordering more books and trying to find a reliable postal service (pro tip: fedex is awful and you should never use them.) I know what it takes to have a successful sale and provide quick, quality turn around time now, so the next sale is guaranteed to be 100% more satisfactory.

AND SPEAKING OF THE NEXT SALE.

Since the books are all wrapped up, I’ll be adding some posters to the store. Look out for an update in a few minutes!

HEY EVERYBODY!

If you have AMAZINGLY WONDERFUL TASTE (and also had some money to spend a few weeks ago) and purchased one or both of the Sakana books, your items should arrive in about a week or so! I was originally hoping to have them all shipped by the end of October, but I VASTLY UNDERESTIMATED the amount of orders I'd get, and have had to reorder new books twice now :u

BUT REST ASSURED if you paid for a book, by george you will get a book no matter how many times I have to pester my printer for new batches. So please bear with me for a bit while I get this all sorted out! NEXT SALE WILL BE BETTER AND MORE PROMPT, I've learned a lot from this one, thank you all so much for your patience <3. AND THANK YOU ALL FOR PROVING TO ME THAT THIS COMIC IS MUCH MORE POPULAR THAN I REALLY THOUGHT IT WAS.


AND GOOD NEWS FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE STILL THINKING ABOUT BUYING: I have a new ENORMOUS order of books on its way right now, so I should have plenty left over after I've finished sending out the rest of these outstanding orders.

HEY BACK FROM VACATION!!

I picked a new template for the site, which I think looks MUCH MUCH BETTER than the old one.

Also I redid the character page! Everybody's in color now!! Still tweaking some things there, but now you can enjoy artwork that isn't a year and a half old! HOORAY!

Will be updating the character page with minor characters in the next few weeks, and of course adding people as they appear in the comic. Keep checking back! :D

NEWS: BAD AND GOOD

SO, bad news first: my summer job has come to an end.

I am ‘in the process’ of ‘trying to decide’ when to move back down to Savannah with my friend Liz (tumblr user bktcm) and this puts a damper on things as I am now jobless when I had hoped I would have a little more time to save up. NEVERTHELESS, I am still planning on moving, because Savannah has a lot more to offer me socially and artistically than a tiny town outside of Philadelphia (aka I am so starved for human contact I think I will put my head through this computer). And I think it’s about time I got really serious with this art thing and tried to make it into a full living rather than half a living.

Which (GOOD NEWS) means more art and more Sakana for all of you! But in order to facilitate this switch, I’m going to be holding a few sales of original art and prints when I get back to my house on August 15th. I don’t often sell original art, because I am stupidly sentimental and also paranoid that I will lose files, BUT SOMETIMES YOU JUST GOTTA PUT IT OUT THERE. So if you ever wanted a one of a kind inked original, NOW IS YOUR CHANCE HURRY BEFORE I CHANGE MY MIND AND HOARD THEM LIKE BIG FLAT PAPER-SHAPED DIAMONDS.

Furthermore, I will also probably be opening up commissions. ~COLORED~ commissions oooooo.

Further furthermore, I need to start thinking about printing the next volume of Sakana. SO LOOK OUT FOR MORE INFO ON THAT AS SEPTEMBER APPROACHES.

So just a heads up! Big changes for me, so I’m kind of freaking out a little bit. If you really super like Sakana and wanna help support it a bit, please keep this in mind for next week! Thanks!!

Hey guys, a bit of an announcement!

As many of you know "Sakana" recently became a featured comic over on MangaMagazine.net ! Turns out they're super nice and communicate really well and are very fun to work with! As part of an agreement with them, and in order to possibly bump it up to 'sponsored comic' some day, I'm going to start uploading all new strips to their website a few days ahead of uploading anywhere else.

WELL WHAT DOES THAT MEAN, MAD? Nothing, really! It's still free to read, will still upload on all regular sites (just a few days later), I still keep all the rights, and I can still post and talk and blog all about it just like I always have been! MangaMagazine will just become it's new hub, rather than Deviantart or Smackjeeves.

WELL THEN WHAT'S THE POINT, MAD? The point is, based upon the popularity of my series compared to other series on the site, I will receive monetary compensation! And still, this means absolutely nothing different will happen, other than me being paid a small amount every month for all the hard work and dedication I put into this comic! Which is spectacular, and I am very excited about it, and I feel like it's taking me one step closer to making a full-time living off of drawing comics! To me this is A PRETTY BIG DEAL.
